Gareth was born and spent his entire life in the Cauldron of Annwfyn along his twin brother, Dareth. When his brother died protecting him, Gareth made the oath to one day escape from Annwfyn, also awakening the power to summon his brother's ghost.
He participated in previous Annwfyn Gladiator Festivals, reaching the final match in one occasion, but losing it against Balin.
Plot[]
Annwfyn Gladiator Festival arc[]
Gareth appears participating in the Gladiator Festival.
After making it to the final 16, Gareth bumps into Percival during halftime and spills his food on him. Gareth doesn't recognize him, while Percival recognize him from a fight in the festival, and the two end up eating together. Hearing that he was never able to leave Annwfyn, Percival compares it to his own isolated life on God's Finger and offers to let him leave with him after the Festival, but Gareth angrily throws his food at him, saying that despite acting like a hero, he can smell death and misfortune on him. Gareth leaves promising that he will beat him if they were to face each other at the Festival.
Gareth is paired with Percival the first fight of the tournament. Gareth attacks him with several stabs, but Percival blocks them all with his hand and pushes him away with a gouren movement. Percival then uses his Meteor Hand and manages to hit the target after several attempts. However, as "Gareth" does not take any damage, he is revealed to be a second fighter who switched places with the real Gareth, who thanks him for being a decoy.
Dareth attacks Percival, surprised to find that his sword, which should be able to cut through any well-crafted or magical weapon, is blocked by Percival's magic. When Gareth takes his place in the fight, Dareth takes the opportunity to stab Percival in the back and rip his soul out of his body. The brothers appear confident that they have won, but Percival suddenly stands up, leaving them stunned that a soul could return to his body like that.
When Percival uses his Life Spirit power to suck the life out of Gareth, Dareth desperately screams to the referee that he surrenders. Percival spares Gareth's life, but he collapses and Dareth is unable to support him.
As the Percival Platoon watched the fight between Howzer and Balin, Gareth approaches them and tells them that Howzer is doomed since he knows how truly strong Balin is. He claims he has never seen him get hurt, and he doesn't even really know if he has a weakness. Percival is touched that he wants to give him advice, and Gareth reminds him of the promise he made earlier and that he better win so they can leave Annwfyn.
When Nasiens enters a seemingly dead state after his fight with Diodora, Gareth is able to see Nasiens' ghost and asks him if he intends to continue turning their back on their friends. Gareth tells them what Nasiens said about risking the poison from the Blood Skill Fruits because it was the only chance to win, though he keeps the fact that they did it so Diodora wouldn't harm Percival. Gareth asks if they knows the antidote to wake him up, and though Nasiens doesn't want to say, Gareth whispers to Percival to give them mouth-to-mouth resuscitation; which saves Nasiens' life since the antidote is a kiss from your loved one. Nasiens asks how he knew, and Gareth replies that he has a keen intuition since he can see ghosts.
Donny later asks Gareth to use his power to summon Varghese's ghost to help Percival.
Abilities/Equipment[]
Gareth proves to be a skilled and very agile fighter and swordsman, being able to deceive most of the competitors in the Gladiator Festival with his magical power and reaching the final of the previous tournament. He is able to fight strategically and synchronized with Dareth to attack his opponent when he is off guard, killing them with a single blow thanks to the property of his magical sword.

- Soul Free「
魂の解放 , Sourufurī; lit. "Soul Liberation"」: The name of Gareth's sword, noted by Beltreipe to be an "instant kill" blade similar to the Green Knight's own. By channeling his power through the sword, Gareth can cut through the "tail" of someone's soul by which it clings to their body, causing their spirit to be forcibly expelled, unable to return to its body on its own.[2]
