— Meliodas to Elizabeth Liones in Even If You Died |
Meliodas「メリオダス」 is the Dragon's Sin of Wrath「
Appearance
Despite having the appearance of a child, Meliodas is much older, being more than three thousand years old. He is exceptionally short compared to other characters, with messy blond hair and emerald eyes. He also lacks facial hair, further accentuating his adolescent appearance. Regardless of his stature and youthful looks, he is relatively muscular, possessing an array of well-developed abdominal muscles. He often wears an ordinary, clean white button-front shirt and a black sleeveless vest on top with a loosely worn tie. His Broken Sword's scabbard is held on by a green leather belt with gold-colored buckles. Without any socks, he wears a pair of black boots. His most distinctive trait is his Dragon symbol carved at the top of his left bicep, just below his shoulder.
When Meliodas was the leader of the Ten Commandments, he wore a white, sleeveless coat adorned by a batch of black X-shaped buttons from all around the high collar, black lining on the coat, a dark red color on the inside, and a coat's tail. He also had black pants with matching colored boots. Meliodas also wielded a large, yet sleek sword, but during his battle with Elizabeth against the Demon King and Supreme Deity it was destroyed.
During his tenure as the leader of Danafor's Holy Knights, Meliodas wore their traditional armor, much like Cain Barzad's. Ten years ago he wore a full-body silver armor with a unique helmet, like the rest of the Sins. He also wielded a dagger that appeared to be his Sacred Treasure. Meliodas was issued a wanted poster, like the rest of the Sins, after being framed for the murder of Great Holy Knight Zaratras. The most current issue of his wanted poster does not accurately depict him but, coincidentally, does depict his brother, Estarossa.
After the Kingdom Infiltration arc, Meliodas sports a new outfit; a long-sleeved, high-collared white tunic over an undershirt, a pair of gloves, knee-length black pants, and black boots. This outfit is a bit more formal like a uniform with the "Boar Hat" embroidered on his back.
After his time in Purgatory, Meliodas now has seven permanent scars where his hearts are located and sports a new Black Mark similar to the one he previously had as leader of the Ten Commandments. He now wears the debut outfit he previously wore.
In his Assault Mode, Meliodas shroud himself in darkness. This takes the appearance of a vest-like coat that only covers his armpits, which flares out at ragged ends, and has a very high collar which is spread wide. He also has two wrist bands, made up of the same darkness as the rest of his clothes. His pants are connected to his feet look like a bird's talons, but with five toes.
In Purgatory, Meliodas' emotions wear a V-neck blue vest, made with the skin of indigenous species, that has three silver diamond-shaped buttons; the vest covers his shoulders and slightly exposes his chest with a small up-turned collar, and slightly opens at the hem. The blue gloves and knee-length pants have a leather-like appearance to it, and both have the same diamond-shaped button on it. Meliodas also seems to wear shoes, rather than his usual choice; boots.
After absorbing all the Commandments and becoming a vessel for the Demon King, Meliodas' body became that of a tall and muscular adult with long hair, a white full-body leotard, golden boots, and gauntlets and two long, clawlike protrusions coming out of a dark matter accumulated on his back. He also has several black marks around his body, including his dragon's symbol on his shoulder.
After the Demon King was driven out of his body, Meliodas returned to his previous appearance. Meliodas also achieved a new form similar to when he was possessed by his father.[9] However, the power was lost when he sacrificed it to destroy the Commandments forever.
Personality
Meliodas' dominant traits are his frankness and his utter fearlessness, shown when he remains composed seeing the Rust Knight who was later revealed to be Elizabeth Liones.[10] Due to his horrible cooking, when his customers vomit onto the Boar Hat's floor, he instructs Hawk to clean up the scraps and scares him by saying phrases such as "roast pig" if he complains, hinting he may roast the talking pig.[11] He is also shown to be very bawdy and loves to frequently tell jokes. Occasionally, he takes advantage of Elizabeth's naivety and gropes her breasts, not even ashamed of doing so in public or in front of her father. He also has a strong sense of justice and is willing to help people in distress. Even when he is severely injured, he tries not to show weakness and stays strong in front of his companions. He holds resentment for himself, deeming himself a failure as an older brother to Zeldris due to the suffering he caused him.
Despite his title as the Sin of Wrath, he maintains the facade of a very calm person. However, if his companions or friends are harmed in any way, he is shown to be capable of extreme rage. He is also enraged when someone tries to take his sword, with this rage being capable of scaring even a Holy Knight[12] and causing him to leave a permanent scar on Ban's neck, despite his regeneration abilities.[13] It has been hinted that Meliodas is guilt-ridden over the fate of Danafor, saying that his sin was being unable to save the kingdom. Ban and Cain point out that Meliodas tends to be soft and naive, due to him never killing anyone, even someone like Guila, who was a serious threat to the group. Meliodas dislikes killing, preferring to be merciful.
Despite all of this, however, Meliodas' personality was once much darker and terrifying, as he was revered to as the vilest and most terrifying demon in existence and no other demon would dare challenge Meliodas when he was the leader of the Ten Commandments and heir to the throne. Although not much has been shown of how he was, Meliodas displays a harsh, arrogant demeanor towards any lesser demon, coldly telling Bellion to get lost and calling him a hindrance and not even bothering to give him another thought as he began his battle with Mael. He is not intimidated by any Goddess except perhaps the Supreme Deity, doing battle with them relentlessly each day and he also does not fear even the mighty Four Archangels, as he is aware of his strength dwarfing theirs and rivaling, if not, surpassing even the mightiest and the fact that even they fear him, as shown by how he does not at all look fazed at the idea of battling Mael. However, even while in such a state, Meliodas still had doubts about the war but due to his loyalty to his father, he never once faltered whenever doing battle with the Goddesses.
His angry reaction when the Demon King called him a destroyer for his plans to make his true self King of the Demons strongly implies that even in his prime, his father was still more demonic than he ever was. In the end, it was this aspect that allowed him to fall in love with Elizabeth and eventually abandon the Demons for her, choosing to stop the meaningless war. Whenever using his Demon Mark, Meliodas' personality changes to be similar to that of his old self, becoming cold, quiet, ruthless, and murderous as he kills and attacks anyone near him without mercy aside from Elizabeth. Despite being renowned as a pervert, the Seven Deadly Sins reveal that Meliodas never displayed any interest towards other females before meeting a grown Elizabeth.
After his time in Purgatory, due to having lost some of his emotions, Meliodas' personality changes drastically whenever he uses the black mark, becoming far more ruthless and at times even sadistic in his battles and wasting no time in his attempts to kill his former demon allies. He states that his outlook has changed and is merciless in his battle with Monspeet and Derieri. During his fight with Fraudrin, he sadistically toyed with his historic enemy using a clone with half his power to give Fraudrin false hope of defeating him, relishing his despair upon realizing Meliodas' true power. In the aftermath of the battle, Meliodas professes to Elizabeth that he is genuinely terrified of becoming that person again.
Beneath Meliodas' frank and bawdy demeanor hides immense amounts of emotional pain from having witnessed Elizabeth die over 106 times. Due to this, Meliodas has no fear of death and intends to lift his and Elizabeth's Curses, which he calmly admits will kill him for good, to free himself and Elizabeth from the torment and so they can be reunited in the afterlife.
Upon releasing his demonic powers in a desperate attempt to escape Melascula's Antan no Mayu Meliodas fully reverts to his old self as the leader of the Ten Commandments. With his old personality in control, Meliodas has been seen to be easily annoyed and angered, being far more brutal, sarcastic, sadistic, and cruel than ever, showing visible pleasure and clearly mocks Escanor while easily beating him up. He also looks down on humans like most demons, as evidenced when he called Escanor a lowly human. He has also been seen to enjoy fighting, as evidenced by the fact that he toyed with Escanor rather than simply immediately going all out and killing him. While arrogant, he is not above complimenting his foes if they are truly powerful, as when he openly praised Escanor for putting up a fight against him. This arrogance is well-known to the Demons, as shown by how Zeldris stated that the only reason Escanor was able to defeat Meliodas was because Meliodas had a bad habit of toying around with opponents to mock them even if they proved to be very formidable and noted that he deserved his defeat at Escanor's hands due to it.
Upon regaining consciousness after being defeated by Escanor, Meliodas regains his memories of Elizabeth and the Seven Deadly Sins. However, he had become solely devoted to breaking Elizabeth's curse and no longer cares about opposing the Demon Clan, even going as far as to ally with his former enemies and even become Demon King to accomplish it. With most of his emotions taken, Meliodas has gained a much calmer and collected attitude with no trace of his old frankness and is also much harsher and straight-to it, as shown when arriving on Camelot and confronting Zeldris and Estarossa, where he sternly says that both Elizabeth and the throne of the Demon King belongs to him alone and had no qualms pinning them down powerfully to make them submit to him. He does, however, retain some level of mercy towards the Seven Deadly Sins as rather as simply killing them, he offered them a chance to stand down and admits that the days he spent with the Sins were not all bad. He also offered Arthur, who he once acted as a mentor to, a chance to leave Camelot Castle on his own will, although he did so harshly, ruthlessly telling him that it is no place for humans like him anymore, and he has left the Sins, and had no qualms engaging him when he refused.
He is not above making deals with others rather than simply forcing them to do what he wants or getting rid of them, as he promised Zeldris that he will fulfill Zeldris' desire if he agrees to help rather than just killing him ruthlessly or beating him until he submits. He also appears to still have affection and attraction towards Elizabeth, as he went out of his way to say when Estarossa said that he wants her that Elizabeth is his alone and patiently tried to make her understand that becoming the Demon King is the only way to save her, but he can now easily become rude at her, as he coldly told her that he felt nothing when she hugged him and had no qualms trying to force her to understand why he must become Demon King by saying bluntly that the only thing he had left is the promise he made to her and even told her openly that he considered her love for him to be imprinted by the Supreme Deity and not by her own will, a fact that he seemed bitter of. He apologized to Zeldris for being such a bad older brother, proving that his emotions were not completely gone.
History
3,000 years ago
The majority of Meliodas' childhood is unknown but in the past, Meliodas was trained by Chandler and was the leader of the Demon Clan's Ten Commandments, bestowed with the Commandment of "Love" and regarded as the one most likely to become the next Demon King, for his strength and ruthlessness. His reputation lead to him being greatly feared by the enemies of the Demon Clan with even the Four Archangels of the Goddess Clan fearing and acknowledging his power. He stood as the Demon King's favorite son as well as true and worthy heir, renowned as the vilest, evil, and most terrifying demon in all existence, his power second only to the Demon King himself.
At some point, Meliodas saved Bellion from the mightiest of the Four Archangels Mael. Coldly telling the lesser demon to get lost and calling him a hindrance, Meliodas paid him not even a single glance and proceeded to battle which forced Mael to retreat.
Later, Meliodas met a young Merlin and saved her from the wizards of her birthplace who were chasing her for running away. Meliodas frequently took care of Merlin during her solitude yet never returned the child's feeling of love.
Upon meeting and falling in love with the goddess Elizabeth, Meliodas chose her over his clan, abandoning his title as leader of the Ten Commandments as well as his Commandment, officially betraying them in the process. Meliodas was confronted by his younger brother, Zeldris, before his desertion, to which Meliodas offers him to leave with him along with Gelda, but Zeldris tied to his loyalty and to his love for the vampire woman, rejects him affirming that he no longer considers him his brother, something he would later come to regret. Meliodas finally flees from the Demon Realm after killing two of the Ten Commandments, Aranak and Zeno, during his escape. This power imbalance he created lead to the Holy War, a war he at some point decided to participate in, siding with his new allies of the Goddess Clan and their allies, the Giants, Fairies, and Humans. He fought alongside the Goddess Elizabeth, Drole, and Gloxinia, as part of Stigma, until the Fairy and Giant kings eventually defected to the Demon Clan for their own reasons. At some point, he also battled with Zeldris with the outcome being unknown.
During the war, Meliodas became friends with a human named Rou. That same day, Ludociel carried out his plan to eliminate the Ten Commandments using innocent demons as live bait to drive them out. Meliodas, together with Drole and Gloxinia, arrived at the battle that had been unleashed between the Commandments and the Archangels, Meliodas then freed Elizabeth from the Ark where she had been locked up. When Elizabeth decides to save Derieri and Monspeet when they become Induras, Meliodas prevents Ludociel from stopping her.
As a result of the forbidden spell used by Gowther, the memories of the Meliodas were altered to believe that the Archangel Mael was his younger brother "Estarossa" who was supposedly given a Commandment by his father because of his cowardice and who was born without the power of darkness.
During the last days of the war, the rulers of the Demons and Goddesses and their parents, the Demon King and the Supreme Deity, had both had enough of the defiance of their children and temporarily put their rivalry aside and worked together to punish Meliodas and Elizabeth. Personally confronted by his god-like father, Meliodas could do nothing against the Demon King and was effortlessly overpowered and killed alongside Elizabeth, who was confronted and equally hopeless against the Supreme Deity. However, their punishment was far worse than death. The Supreme Deity cursed Meliodas with Immortality as his punishment, reviving him every time he died in exchange for his emotions being consumed more and more until return to be the bloodthirsty demon he once was. The Demon King cursed Elizabeth with Perpetual Reincarnation, forcing her to live human lives in which she would always reunite with Meliodas and die right before his eyes, over and over again. While not knowing why he survived unscathed from their battle, he saw Elizabeth dead and cried out as he held her corpse.
With the war over, he wandered a shattered Britannia and eventually came across a human girl from a savage tribe who looked like Elizabeth, minus the wings. Although she did not remember it, Meliodas became very close to her and one day she regained the powers of her previous life. When Meliodas told her about it, the girl recovered all her memories, soon though Meliodas learned of the curses they were been placed under and promised her that he would work to release them, and watched Elizabeth die again.[14]
Since then, Meliodas continued to meet and fall in love with Elizabeth's reincarnations, getting to know all of them. Because of the curse of the Demon King, Meliodas saw each of them die before his eyes. One of them was a child who died in a house fire after getting her memories back, and another was a young lady who died of old age without ever remembering anything, passing on peacefully.

He would continue this cycle for almost 3,000 years until he went to and was employed into the service of the Holy Knights of the kingdom of Danafor. There, he had a brief encounter with Merlin hoping she could give him a way to break the curse. When she suggests releasing the Ten Commandments to use the power that Zeldris borrowed from the Demon King, Meliodas refuses to know the danger he would represent and that Zeldris would never agree to help him.
It was in Danafor that Meliodas eventually met a slave girl named Liz from an enemy kingdom of Danafor, later revealed to be a reincarnation of Elizabeth. Subsequently, sentenced to death, Meliodas set her free and personally offered to fight on her behalf if anyone objected. He later took Liz to his house where they lived together, often groping her chest to which she reacted violently. Later, Liz grew closer to Meliodas and became his lover, with him calling her the "most important person to him". However, Fraudrin managed to escape his sealing after the people of Danafor broke the seal[15] and he eventually attacked Danafor, nearly destroying it in his attempt to open the Coffin of Eternal Darkness. Fraudrin murdering Liz right in front of Meliodas left the latter enraged. Meliodas later apologized to Liz for not saving her, but Liz told him that they would meet again and to not forget what they fought for. After seeing Liz die, Meliodas' rage caused his immense power to go out of control. This explosion of power wiped Danafor off of the face of the world and critically injured Fraudrin, leaving him at the brink of death.[16]
After this, Meliodas found the Dragon Handle and a baby that was the reincarnated Liz. The couple is discovered by the Great Holy Knight Zaratras who tries to help them, but Meliodas warns him to not touch his woman. When the baby Elizabeth was adopted by the king Bartra Liones, Meliodas requests to become a Liones' Holy Knight to stay close to her, convincing Zaratras of this by effortlessly defeating him in a sword fight. At some point, Bartra had a premonition of the creation of the Seven Deadly Sins. Therefore, using the prophecy as a guide, Merlin appears revealing that she already found all the members including Meliodas and herself. Meliodas decides to unite all of them to defeat the Ten Commandments if the Goddess Clan's seal was ever broken.
At some point in time, Meliodas, intending to recruit Ban, arrived at the convict's cell where he was warned by the guards of Ban's immortality. Ban, believing that another execution was to be performed, stated that he would merely sit as he was executed, only to find out that a child had entered. Ban refused to join Meliodas, and, to Meliodas' declaration that he will then take him out by force, engages him in battle. Their battle resulted in Ban being punched out of his cell and Ban, having become extremely excited, requests that the battle be continued. Meliodas responds that to do so, Ban would have to join him, with Ban grinning widely at the invitation.[17]
Meliodas also recruits King after he was arrested for false crimes, telling him that he is a wonderful king for sacrificing himself for his people.

When the Deadly Sins were not yet formed, Meliodas finds Diane being bothered by a group of knights called the Knights of the Golden Wheats. After he arrives and knocks one out, both the knights and Diane tell Meliodas to leave. The Knights also say that Meliodas should not help Diane since she is a monster, to which Meliodas responds that it was wrong for them to pick on a girl. He defeats them all with ease after the rude comments. Meliodas later asks Diane if she had been frightened, which surprised her since she was bigger than him, This eventually led to her falling in love with him due to his kindness and treating her like she was a normal person. After Diane got arrested by the Holy Knights, Meliodas frees her by the order of King Bartra.
At some point during this period, Gowther is also recruited into the Seven Deadly Sins, however, the exact details of his recruitment, as well as whether he was recruited by Meliodas himself or by Merlin are currently unknown.
Also, around this time, Meliodas and Merlin meet Escanor and convince him to join as the final member of the Sins, although the two were forced to restrain him by order of the king to stop his havoc. Meliodas made sure that Liones exculpated Escanor for terrorizing the villages, hurting the Holy Knights, and disrespecting King Baltra. However, Escanor did not feel able to join them because his lack of control with his power only harmed those around him. Hearing him say that he thinks he deserves only to die, Meliodas tells Escanor that they would have a fight at noon to decide, that he will join the Sins if he loses. Although Escanor reaches the pinnacle of his power at noon, Meliodas manages to defeat him by releasing his Assault Mode. Meliodas then tells him that he feels pain because he is alive because Rosa saved him by sacrificing her own life, but if he wants to die so badly then there is no point in speaking to an arrogant dead man. Escanor finally tells him that he wants to live, to which Meliodas tells him that if he can't keep those thoughts in check, he will be there to do it instead. Meliodas would fight with Escanor multiple times after this so that he would learn to control his power.
With this, the formation of the Seven Deadly Sins becomes complete, with the Sins becoming the highest order of knights in the kingdom of Liones, answering directly to the king himself, and also to the Great Holy Knight, Zaratras, with the great holy knight being their only superior besides the King himself.
After the formation of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas and his team participated in various missions; a notable one being to purge the Kingdom of Edinburgh after it was invaded by the Vampire Clan.

He and the Deadly Sins head out to the kingdom to stop them from spreading further. However, Meliodas soon orders Diane, King, Gowther, and Ban to go on ahead while he and Merlin get Escanor to join the fight. The Deadly Sins and Holy Knights were surprised by Meliodas' decision to bring in Escanor. Thanks to Merlin's teleportation, Meliodas, and Escanor end up at Edinburgh. Meliodas carries Escanor's Sacred Treasure, Rhitta as Escanor was in his night mode. Meliodas tries to encourage Escanor to have more confidence in himself, but he soon started to cry and apologizes for being so weak. The two soon become separated and Meliodas meets Ren and Gelda. The three fought one another as Ren believed Meliodas to be his brother, Zeldris who sealed them away long ago. Gelda soon burned Ren alive and revealed that she knew Meliodas is not Zeldris. Revealing her story to the Dragon's Sin of Wrath, Gelda wishes to die, knowing that there's no purpose left for her in this world anymore since Zeldris is gone. Meliodas seemingly granted her wish and killed the vampire in a massive burst, that resulted in a hole 30,000 feet deep in the earth, but Meliodas sealed her again.[18]
At one point in time, the Sins were resting after defeating a Tyrant Dragon when Ban took an interest in Meliodas' broken blade and attempts to steal it. The latter uses his mysterious Hellblaze to give Ban a scar that can never heal despite his regenerative abilities. Later, Meliodas met Dreyfus and Hendrickson while eating after training with his fellow Sins and commented that their superior, Zaratras, was invincible. Hendrickson responds to the claim by saying he was being modest. Meliodas compliments Dreyfus's sword skill, which made the latter happy and begins to respect the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins.

When the trolls and their queen came and attacked Istar, Meliodas and the other Sins went in place of Hendrickson to take charge. The Druid heads Jenna and Zaneri immediately recognize him as a member of the Demon Clan and threaten to expose him. However, Meliodas also realizes they are part of the Goddess Clan, so both parties decide to keep the identity of the other secret. Although Jenna refused to trust Meliodas, Zaneri accepts that they help them with the trolls that had taken control of the altar of Istar.
Once they cross the spring to enter the underground cave where the altar is, Meliodas and Ban compete over who will fight a troll and kill it by accident. Seeing how strange magic leaves the body of the troll, Meliodas realizes that it is the power of a Goddess. When Jenna and Zaneri appear after following them, Meliodas saves Zaneri from the attack of another troll and tells them both that it is better for them to leave, because the trolls are being controlled by a Goddess.
When Meliodas reaches the altar, everything is revealed to be the work of a goddess, Jelamet, who took possession of the Troll Queen's body and brainwashed the other trolls to take over the altar and take advantage of the connection of its with the Celestial Realm to free the goddesses and take control of Britannia. Both Meliodas and Jelamet recognize each other as the son of the Demon King and Elizabeth's old friend. Jelamet declares her intentions to kill Meliodas and take his head to Elizabeth, but Zaneri tries to reason with her. However, Jelamet dismisses her and Jenna as defectors and uses Job no Shiren to steal Zaneri's voice and Jenna's sight.
Meliodas orders that she undo her magic and hit her with a simple clap that sends her flying. Jelamet manages to use Ark, but Meliodas only insists that he release Jenna and Zaneri. Jelamet refuses to accuse them both of treason for defecting and protecting him, crying out for her hatred towards Meliodas because of Mael's death. Zaneri manages to attack Jelamet with a lightning bolt that frees Meliodas from the Ark, who asks her forgiveness for not being able to stop the Holy War. There, Escanor appears and when she feels his magic, Jelamet confuses him with Mael.
However, seeing that it is Escanor, Jelamet understands that it is not Mael. Escanor tries to kill her, but Meliodas stops him. There, Jelamet assumes that Mael died. Thus, Jelamet leaves the Troll Queen's body and decides to return to the Celestial Realm and sleep alongside her brethren until the time her heart is relieved of grief.
Despite recovering the altar, Diane and the other Sins appear and destroy it, wanting to end the Troll Queen.

Before they were infamously framed, Meliodas was training Gilthunder until Gilthunder grew upset as he believed he would never become as strong as the Deadly Sins or his father, but Meliodas told him to ditch his negative attitude and Margaret came and told him "The Way of the Knight" creed. Margaret told Gilthunder that he should be himself, and not like the Deadly Sins or his father, and she believed that Gilthunder would be the kindest and strongest Holy Knight someday which cheered up Gilthunder. However, the next day Gilthunder came running toward Meliodas and told him to run away with the others. Meliodas was lost at Gilthunder and told him to explain everything, but Gilthunder told him something terrible was coming and if he told anybody, bad things would happen, and Gilthunder had no idea what to do. Meliodas told Gilthunder to calm down by hitting his head and asked him what he wanted to do, to which Gilthunder answered that he needed to protect Margaret, but had no idea how to do it. Meliodas taught him a charm that could cheer him up whenever he felt sad or terrible which was to say out loud that he was stronger than any of the Seven Deadly Sins. Gilthunder said it, to which Meliodas pointed out that he should feel better soon. Meliodas embraced Gilthunder, told him he should not cry, and if he were in trouble, he would come to his aid.
When they were still an active and commended group of knights, they supposedly summoned to an old castle after defeating the troll queen and destroying the Great Druid Altar. As the Sins were inside the castle, they discussed among themselves the reason behind the order they received as Meliodas complained that they should be attending Liones' National Foundation Day Festival and go drinking only for King to remind his captain that he was always drinking anyway. After Diane and Merlin speculated whether their superior might reward or scold them for their last mission, Meliodas had already decided that it was a scolding and reminded his team to attend the festival later, much to his team's chagrin. As they entered the room, they discovered the Great Holy Knight, Zaratras completely skewered to death. Soon, they were framed for the murder and then surrounded by over three hundred knights of the kingdom. As the Liones' Holy Knights attacked the castle, Meliodas gave his team his last orders: to disperse and regroup later to figure out the cause of Zaratras' death, which everyone obeyed and separated while fighting their way out. In the aftermath, a little girl tries to help the Deadly Sins to escape, but end up getting heavily injured and leading to Meliodas unleash his rage once more, but soon knocked out by Merlin and sealed away his strength, but Meliodas soon forgot the event which leads him to suspect the existence of a traitor.[19]
Once Meliodas awoke, he came to meet Hawk within a cave that was close by to Camelot as the two ended up speaking with one another, where Hawk mentions that he felt like he used to fly in the sky, thinking he was a Dragon back in his past life when Meliodas thought he was Wandle. The two argued over Hawk's name until Hawk mentioned a restaurant named Pig Leg where Hawk loved the leftover, which led Meliodas and Hawk to team up and work together since Meliodas can not work as a knight anymore. They decided to open a bar on Hawk Mama's back, named Boar Hat, after the restaurant Hawk mentioned, by having Meliodas sell his Sacred Treasure, which he felt bad about since King Bartra had given him this weapon. Since then, Hawk and Meliodas have become business partners, Meliodas being the owner while Hawk is the cleaner as he could eat the leftovers.
Abilities and Equipment
Meliodas' skill in battle and power are legendary. He was the captain of the legendary Seven Deadly Sins and when he was a member of the Demon Clan, Meliodas reigned supreme once as the leader of the Ten Commandments and the only worthy heir to the throne of the Demon King, greatly feared by the enemies of the Demon Clan and even other demons alike, considered to be the most powerful demon second only to the Demon King, so powerful that the demon Gowther stated his betrayal alone caused the balance of power between the Goddess and Demon Clans to tilt in the favor of the former and allow them to start the Holy War, forcing Gowther, as a last resort, to convert Mael, the strongest member of the Goddess Clan, into Estarossa of the Demon Clan in an attempt to regain the advantage over the Goddess Clan.
Like all members of the Demon Clan, he is capable of manifesting their mysterious power of darkness, which he can use and morph into various shapes for a variety of purposes, such as forming wings to fly, healing his own injuries, reattaching limbs, and enhancing both his physical and magical abilities. He is also knowledgeable of demonic enchantments. He is most well-known for his skills with the sword and for his pure physical prowess, but he also has incredible magical abilities, notably his virtual immunity to magic attacks through with his ability Full Counter. An example of his immense combat skills was when he overwhelmed both the ancient Fairy and Giant Kings, Gloxinia and Drole simultaneously. The most noteworthy display of his outstanding fighting prowess and power was when Meliodas's emotions, upon becoming serious, could defend himself against his father for a brief period before being quickly subdued. When recovering the power taken from him by Merlin, the amount of darkness released from the Goddess Amber was enough to blot out the sky, and the subsequent aftershock from Istar could be felt from Edinburgh almost 100km away.[20] Before the start of the series, his power was intense enough to destroy the entire Kingdom of Danafor. Merlin, feeling his power was too vast and dangerous for him to control, stole most of it before he could do the same to the Kingdom of Liones.[21] Even with most of his power taken, however, he still had a Power Level of more than 10 times the standard for a Holy Knight of Liones.[22] With his power returned, he can easily fight on par with and defeat members of the legendary Ten Commandments, even despite it only being a fraction of his original power during the Holy War.[23][24]
After saving several villagers, it is said by Ban that Meliodas is as strong as ever but that his power was different back during the defense of Liones.[25]
After unleashing his full demonic powers in a desperate attempt to break free of Melascula's Antan no Mayu, Meliodas regains the power he had when he was the leader of Ten Commandments, attaining his Assault Mode. He easily outmatched Escanor in their fight despite his power increasing every second to the point that Diane noted he was toying with the Sin of Pride, remaining almost completely unharmed by his attacks, being defeated only when Escanor reached the peak of his powers as The One, (though Zeldris would state it was due to Meliodas still underestimating Escanor). Even after being badly injured and almost sliced in half by Escanor, moments later, Meliodas was able to quickly recover, only being stopped by Merlin's timely interference. Even while unconscious, his aura was already so immensely powerful and dark to cause even Escanor as well as post-trial King and Diane to feel sick around him. Later, upon reawakening, he effortlessly pinned down both Zeldris and Estarossa, with not even the Demon King's power allowing Zeldris to move the slightest and soon subduing Estarossa completely as well, all the while also immobilizing Cusack. When attacked again, he effortlessly overtook and restrained Zeldris while simultaneously protecting Elizabeth from Estarossa. He also effortlessly survived unscathed by the attacks of Arthur wielding Excalibur and his aura was easily powerful enough to intimidate the spirits inside the holy sword to submission. His power is so great that it eclipses even the mighty Four Archangels, as Estarossa himself openly said that if he could not defeat Sariel and Tarmiel of the Four Archangels, he would have no chance to defeat Meliodas. Like his younger brothers, he also can remove Commandments with Jikai, having stolen Grayroad's while Merlin was unconscious. He is also capable of performing a ritual to absorb the Ten Commandments and is the only one apart from Zeldris able to survive to take in more than one Commandment, as shown when he had begun absorbing five of the Commandments, although to completely absorb several Commandments would take more time to the point that five Commandments would take half a day to be fully absorbed. According to Meliodas once he has absorbed all the Commandments, which is half of the Demon King's power, he will become so powerful that he will be as powerful as the Demon King and thus making him capable of breaking the curse on Elizabeth.
While absorbing the Commandments, Meliodas produced an almost impenetrable field of darkness surrounding him, which Merlin stated she could do nothing to destroy, needing Ludociel's Sanctuary along with the Melascula's Commandment that Merlin hold, being pulled towards Meliodas to be able to enter. Only the Original Demon could dispel the space.
Ludociel states that if Meliodas become the new Demon King, then all of the forces of Stigma would certainly be defeated with the Supreme Deity now being unable to help them.
After successfully absorbing all of the Commandments, Meliodas has become Demon King, therefore increasing his powers to the same godly levels as his father possesses. His extraordinary magical power completely clouds the entire environment in darkness and leaves all the Seven Deadly Sins, Mael, Ludociel, and Elizabeth in absolute awe and sweating.
Meliodas has been afflicted with a curse by the Demon King as punishment for falling in love with a goddess and killing and betraying his demonic brethren that revives him without fail no matter how many times he dies, whether via killing himself or getting killed. It additionally prevents him from dying of old age, effectively keeping him immortal. However, upon each revival, he slowly loses some of his emotions in exchange, slowly returning to his former self. The curse can last permanently and the only way to lift it is for someone with power rivaling that of the Demon King and Supreme Deity to lift it.
During the Holy War, Meliodas claims that, while escaping from Purgatory, he achieved the necessary means to break both curses.[26] Then, after the Demon King was expelled from his body, Meliodas finally destroyed both curses, freeing himself and Elizabeth once and for all.[27]
Due to the awakening of his original power, Meliodas became the new Demon King on his own and as such, he cannot stay in the Mortal Plane due to his massive power, which causes irregular weather phenomena across the four corners of Britannia from just being there. However, Meliodas sacrificed his godly power to cancel out the Commandments in order to prevent his father from ever returning again and thus lost his new power and was able to remain in Britannia once again.
Abilities
- Full Counter「
全反撃 , Furukauntā」: This ability allows Meliodas to reflect magic attacks aimed at him, back at the enemy, but with much greater power; therefore, the stronger the opponent's powers are, the rebound becomes. A prime drawback is that Meliodas cannot initiate attacks himself. He is also incapable of reflecting attacks if the opponent does not allow him to read the timing/nature of their attacks. Physical, indirect, and continuous attacks can also not be reflected.[28] The Demon King stated that the technique is merely an imitation of Chandler's technique and that his original magic power is something different.
- Hellblaze「
獄炎 , Herubureizu; literally meaning "Hellfire"」: A mysterious ability displayed by Meliodas that allows him to generate black flames. The technique also has the additional effect of nullifying an immortal's regeneration, as shown when he used it against Ban.[29]
- Assault Mode「
殲滅状態 , Asaruto Mōdo」: This state is reached when Meliodas unleashes his demon powers to the fullest, achieving immense powers. This form also allows Meliodas to access his full power. According to Melascula, back in the days when Meliodas was in command of the Ten Commandments, even they were in fear of him while in this mode. The drawback is that it temporarily robs Meliodas of all his feeling and emotions, causing him to revert to how he was before he betrayed the Demon Clan.
- Kami Chigiri「
神 千斬 り, Kami Chigiri; literally meaning "Thousand Divine Slayer"」: Meliodas cuts his opponent with his sword a total of a thousand times in an instant.
- Trillion Dark「トリリオン・ダーク, Toririon Dāku」: Meliodas launches a barrage of small spheres of high concentrated darkness at the opponent.[30]
- Shiden Issen「
紫電 一閃 , Shiden Issen; literally meaning "Purple Lightning Slash"」: Meliodas slashes mulitple opponents several times with his sword in an instant.[31]
- Dark Prominence「
暗黒星 , Dāku Purominensu; literally meaning "Dark Star"」: Meliodas infuses his sword with the power of darkness and performs a powerful slash.[32]
Combined Techniques
- Combined Technique: Kamigui「合技
神 喰 い, Gōgi "Kamigui"; literally meaning "God Eater"」: After his sword is infused with Elizabeth's Ark, Meliodas cuts his opponent a total of a thousand times in an instant.[33] - Combined Technique: Tyrant Killing「合技
暴君殺し , Gōgi Tairanto Kiringu」: Meliodas and Zeldris attack the enemy with their swords imbued in the power of darkness.[34]
Commandment
As the former leader of the Ten Commandments, Meliodas was the original wielder of the Commandment of Love「
After completing the ritual to become Demon King via absorption of all the Commandments, Meliodas held all ten Commandments but upon forcing the Demon King out of his body, the Commandments were also forced out.
Weapons
- Giant Broad Sword: Meliodas used this sword in the Holy War 3,000 years ago, also used it when he was the leader of the Ten Commandments. The sword is at least twice the size of Meliodas. It was broken in the battle Meliodas and the goddess Elizabeth fought and lost against the Demon King and the Supreme Deity. The sword did not show any traits of being able to use an ability like a Sacred Treasure.
- Dragon Handle: Meliodas used this broken sword in conjunction with Full Counter. The sword also appears to have abilities of its own and is one of the keys to the Coffin of Eternal Darkness.
- Liz's Sword: Once Meliodas regained his lover's sword, Liz, Meliodas started using it after his Dragon Handle was stolen. It also works in conjunction with Full Counter. It was broken during Meliodas' fight with an Albion.
- Lostvayne: As a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas possesses a Sacred Treasure.[36][37] Lostvayne is a "demon-splitting sword" which he sold at a pawn shop in Camelot for money to fund the Boar Hat 10 years ago.[38] It is later returned to him by Merlin who is revealed to have purchased the sword and kept it safe all this time. Its ability Jitsuzo Bunshin is compatible with Meliodas' Full Counter allowing him to use it as much more dangerous levels.
- Bone Sword: In Purgatory, Meliodas' emotions created a sword, made with the bones of the indigenous species, with a single-edged long blade.[39] The blade is compatible with Meliodas' Full Counter.[40]
Power Level
Meliodas' power level increases in stages as the story progresses and is increased further whenever he utilizes his demon powers. Using Lostvayne, Meliodas can create a clone with a maximum Power Level of half of his Power Level. Creating more clones will cause that power to be equally distributed among them.
Meliodas' power level at the start of the series, after having most of his power stolen by Merlin, is as follows:

Relationships
Elizabeth Liones
Meliodas and Elizabeth have a loving and friendly relationship, with Meliodas enjoying his time joking and teasing her. He frequently "checks" her panties, and even stole them once. He also gropes her rather frequently and without shame. However, it is shown that he does care about her strengths and considers her as someone important to him. So far, Elizabeth (along with his broken sword) is the only thing that will unleash Meliodas' rage if either is taken or hurt. Despite rampaging and losing consciousness in Vaizel when in his partial demon state, Elizabeth was the only one who was not harmed. Meliodas' care for Elizabeth grew to the point where he was madder at Elizabeth's kidnapping than his stolen sword and traveled to Liones at great speed just to save her. It is unknown whether Meliodas is projecting an image of Liz on Elizabeth due to their resemblance, but it is strongly hinted that he has feelings for her as he says that if she was to die he would have no more reason to live. It was also hinted that he wanted to continue to run the bar together with her when Liones is free.
However, after the Ten Commandments were released, Meliodas started acting distant and cold towards Elizabeth, in hopes for her to stay away from him since the danger has risen, but this did not stop Elizabeth as she still wanted to be with Meliodas due to her growing feelings for him and desire to help him. This, however, changed as Meliodas started to be accepting of Elizabeth again after she helped him with his trial to regain his strength and soon returned to groping her. It also revealed that the reason Meliodas cares so much for Elizabeth is that she is the reincarnated spirit of Liz, Meliodas' dead lover. In the past, Meliodas was the reason Elizabeth survived the destruction of Danafor, even joining the Holy Knights of Liones to watch over her as she grew up, becoming a sort of knight for her.
Upon his return from the dead Meliodas and Elizabeth's relationship seems to have grown with her embracing after defeating two of the Ten Commandments. However, he appears to still not be ready to tell her things about their past together. But, when Elizabeth later met Zeldris it is revealed that Meliodas and Elizabeth's relationship stretches across the 3,000 years the demons have been sealed with Elizabeth being reincarnated 107 times and Meliodas always meeting her and watching over her.
After Elizabeth's curse is reactivated, Meliodas becomes more determined than ever to break her curse and protect and save her, even going as far as to unleash his full demonic powers and later becoming Demon King to achieve it. Meliodas in his Assault Mode as he now still retains affection and attachment to Elizabeth, as he went out of his way to say that Elizabeth belongs to him alone and later patiently tried to make her understand that becoming Demon King is the only way to save her, but he has grown cynical towards the reason of Elizabeth loving only him, saying that it was the curse of the Supreme Deity, and can easily grow blunt at her, as shown when he coldly told her he felt nothing when she hugged him and that the only thing left for him is his promise to her though he said it in his demon form.they later get married
Hawk
He and Hawk had a good and bad relationship. Though they argue frequently, they seem to care about each other. Meliodas has some form of trust toward Hawk as he trusted him to protect or watch over Elizabeth when the latter is away. When Hawk was seemingly killed by Hendrickson while protecting him, Meliodas was furious and upset at Hendrickson for killing Hawk, showing that Meliodas indeed cared for Hawk.
Hawk Mama
Nothing is known about the two interacting, but Meliodas appears to respect and rely on her.
Diane
Meliodas and Diane are both members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Although Diane is a giant and therefore of humongous size, Meliodas still treats her as an ordinary girl and trusts her very much as a subordinate.[43] Just as he treats Elizabeth, he always enjoys teasing her and joking around with her.[44] He states that the reason he does not grope Diane is that he would not do that to someone so important to him, although this may only have been an excuse and to cheer her up. Whenever Diane wanted to be groped like Elizabeth, Meliodas showed an annoyed expression, but in the end, still treats her like a dear friend. Even after developing feelings for King, Diane showed to still care a lot for Meliodas, only now viewing him as a dear friend, and now she openly supports his relationship with Elizabeth, which Meliodas seemed to be glad about. After passing her trial and learning about Meliodas and Elizabeth's curse, Meliodas comforted Diane who felt bad for not knowing, and in turn, Diane became all the more protective and supportive of both him and Elizabeth as her friends.
Ban
Meliodas and Ban are both members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Meliodas is extremely friendly with Ban, and they have friendly fights frequently. They are very competitive and enjoy challenging each other at arm wrestling. Despite being great companions, Meliodas easily became angered when Ban tried to steal his sword.[45] When Ban accepted the request from the Goddess Clan to kill him, Meliodas was annoyed at Ban's reckless nature for accepting this, especially during their bad situation. However, once he found out the reason behind this, Meliodas accepted his death by Ban as he knows how he feels and might have done the same thing if he would've been in his situation. After their problems are sorted out, Ban and Meliodas return to their friendly relationship and respect each other highly. After Ban is reunited with his lover Elaine, Meliodas is shown to be very happy for Ban, so much so that he now jokingly teases their relationship the same way Ban does with him and Elizabeth. The two of them have even been shown to be competitive with one another in regarding whose relationship is better and who's girl is more appealing, as shown during the Great Festival Arc, as the two spent the entirety of their fight dominating their opponents while debating over who's better, Elizabeth or Elaine.
The friendship between Meliodas and Ban enhances even further after Ban went into Purgatory to rescue Meliodas. Meliodas was happy, having Ban as a friend on his side while being stuck in Purgatory.
King
Meliodas and King are both members of the Seven Deadly Sins. When King is reported as dead and buried[46], Meliodas does not appear to be shocked, indicating that he is confident in King's powers and the fact that he is not dead. When King joins up with the group, Meliodas is shown to enjoy bullying him into doing things that he does not like to do. For example, Meliodas forces him to join the Vaizel Fight Festival. Overall, King appears to have deep trust in him as a friend and captain. Meliodas mentions that King was kind of like a mascot of the Deadly Sins, it is unknown if he meant it seriously or as a joke.
However, after finding out Meliodas is a former member of the Demon Clan and later finding out he relates to the Ten Commandments, King starts to gradually, but greatly questions his true nature and whether or not he is actually on their side. King's doubts in his captain seem further justified when Meliodas refuses to tell him about his past and instead questions his title as king of the Fairies, which angered King enough to attack and try to kill Meliodas with his Disaster ability. Later, King decides to be on Meliodas' side since Diane and Ban trust him, but threatens that he will kill him if Meliodas decides to betray them. After passing his trial and learning about Meliodas and Elizabeth's curse, King seemed to fully understand Meliodas and trust him once again, and even deeply regretted how he treated and doubted Meliodas before these events, which Meliodas forgave him for.
Gowther
Meliodas and Gowther are both members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Despite both being members, Meliodas seems to have a friendly, but complicated relationship with Gowther. When they reunited with one another after 10 years, Meliodas did not seem to recognize Gowther's true appearance at all, stating that he had never seen him outside of his armor before. This implies that despite recruiting him into the sins, Meliodas might not have ever seen Gowther's true appearance until they reunited years later, which also implies that he might not have directly recruited Gowther as he did with the other sins.
Despite this fact and Gowther's emotionless nature, Meliodas is shown to be friendly with Gowther as they chat and Gowther, in turn, seems to respect him as a captain as Meliodas was the only one whose secret he did not tell anyone. It was revealed later that Meliodas and Gowther were once members of the Ten Commandments 3,000 years ago, however, Gowther lost his memories of this time. It is also revealed that Meliodas was not only aware of Gowther being a doll, and his past as one of the Commandments, but was close friends with his creator, yet had not revealed this fact to anyone, even Gowther himself. After Gowther began to regain his memories, Meliodas immediately ordered the rest of the sins to help Diane stop him from trying to erase his memories, showing his desire to want to help Gowther regain his memories and emotions once again. After regaining his memories and emotions once again, Gowther's respect and friendliness towards Meliodas seemed to be more genuine than before.
Merlin
Meliodas and Merlin are both members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Not much is known about their relationship but Meliodas was greatly shocked when he found out she was the one who knocked him out ten years ago. When the two finally reunite after ten years, Meliodas was a little hostile towards her, believing she is up to something, but soon forgot to ask her any questions because of Elizabeth. When Merlin offered to return to the Deadly Sins, Meliodas was fine with letting her return, but still felt annoyed when she uses someone as a guinea pig.
Their relationship has been heavily implied to be deeper than the rest of the Sins, as Meliodas freely talked to her about demon related subjects, such as the Ten Commandments, unlike everyone else who either refused to answer or changed the subject. Eventually, it is revealed that Meliodas has known Merlin the longest out of any of the Deadly Sins, having known her for 3,000 years, with both of them have known about the Commandments before the group was even formed. But despite that relationship, Meliodas still seems somewhat hostile towards her when she first arrived in Liones but soon agreed to form the Seven Deadly Sins. As a result of their long relationship, Meliodas and Merlin know almost everything about one another and seem to be both equally close and cautious towards one another due to how much they know about the other. Meliodas was the only one to notice Merlin's hastiness towards returning to Camelot as well as her injury from her encounter with Zeldris, showing concern for her as well as curiosity as to why she wanted to go back to Camelot so badly and was surprised to learn that the reason was that she wanted to find King Arthur, showing that the two of them are closer friends than they appear to be.
Escanor
Meliodas and Escanor are both members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Meliodas has a very high opinion of Escanor, as he sees him as the strongest out of all the sins, even admitting that he could be stronger than Meliodas himself. Escanor, however, seems to depend on Meliodas, especially during the night, as was shown when Meliodas was dragging the former's Sacred Treasure. Though Meliodas is irritated by Escanor's constant crying and doubtful behavior, he still encourages him to have more confidence in himself. Upon learning of Meliodas' curse, Escanor comes up with and recites a poem regarding both his and Meliodas' curses in an attempt to cheer him up, as he understands what it feels like to be cursed. Meliodas in return appreciates his efforts and thanked him with a smile.[47] Night Escanor respects his captain greatly and usually apologizes for being such a burden. Daytime Escanor also respects Meliodas, however, his respect for him is greatly downplayed by his pride and confidence in his power.
Gilthunder
Meliodas and Gilthunder shared a good relationship in the past. Meliodas teaches Gilthunder some form of swordsmanship, The Way of the Knight creed, and called him Little Gil in the past. Despite being on opposite sides, Meliodas hold no grudge against Gilthunder as a Holy Knight and still sees him as the little kid he knew. Meliodas was proven right as Gilthunder's true action and once he was freed, Gilthunder and Meliodas return to their old friendly ways.
Zaratras
Before the Deadly Sins were framed, Meliodas appears to respect Zaratras for his amazing ability and powers, calling him invincible. However, some Holy Knights believed Meliodas was just being modest.
Dreyfus
Before framing the Seven Deadly Sins, Dreyfus respected Meliodas a lot during their time, even becoming happy when Meliodas pointed out his skill over Zaratras.
Bartra Liones
Not much is known about Meliodas and Bartra, but it appears that Meliodas see him as an old friend. Despite being the king and Elizabeth's father, Meliodas still sexually harassed Elizabeth in front of him without shame to Bartra's annoyance.
Margaret Liones
Meliodas and Margaret appear to have a good relationship in the past as she was a friend to Gilthunder and she admires the Deadly Sins. Meliodas tend to tease Margaret and Gilthunder's relationship, saying she will be wearing the pants in their relationship like a wife.
Veronica Liones
Not much is known about the relationship between Meliodas and Veronica, however, Veronica seems to dislike Meliodas, believing he brainwashed Elizabeth into joining him and Meliodas does not seem to be fond of her as she tries to take Elizabeth by force. However, Meliodas does seem sad when Veronica died.
Liz
Liz was Meliodas' lover when he was the leader of the Holy Knights of Danafor. Originally a knight from an enemy empire, she was sentenced to death, but saved by Meliodas. Initially, Liz disliked him and trusted nobody, however, she was soon drawn and charmed by Meliodas and became the person most important to him. Similar to Elizabeth, Meliodas enjoyed groping Liz, though she would often retaliate with violence, unlike Elizabeth. Meliodas greatly loves Liz, seeing her as the cheeriest and beloved person in his life, even went insane and rage when she died and even brought him to tears seeing her died hundreds and thousands of times over during his trials.
Wandle
Not much is known about Wandle relationship with Meliodas, but seem to have a deep bond of partnership with one another. However, Wandle seems annoyed with Meliodas whenever he leaves trash around.
Cain Barzad
Meliodas and Cain were old friends back in their days as Danafor Holy Knights. Not much is known about the two, but Cain seems to hold high respect for Meliodas, and Meliodas sees him as a good friend but does not seem to know his true name or face due to Cain wearing armor all the time.
Zeldris
Zeldris is Meliodas' younger brother. They once had a good relationship, as Meliodas' emotions later stated that Zeldris looked up to Meliodas as the leader of the Ten Commandments and understood that he was almost sincere and honest to a fault and he also trained Zeldris on how to fight. However, he admitted that he could never comprehend why Zeldris was so desperate and worked so hard until he fell for Elizabeth and finally understood how it felt like to have someone precious to him. His betrayal of the Demon Clan made them estranged but while Meliodas has no hatred for him but has no qualms engaging him, Zeldris despises Meliodas greatly, as it was due to Meliodas' betrayal that the Vampires betrayed the Demon King and he was forced to separate with Gelda. While Meliodas feels guilty for Zeldris' loss of Gelda, Zeldris does not hesitate to attack Meliodas and sees him as nothing more than a traitor and an obstacle that must be destroyed to conquer Britannia but unlike the rest of the Commandments, it is also because of his personal grudge he still harbors toward his brother and most likely, said grudge has only grown stronger upon seeing the large hole on Edinburgh where Zeldris sealed Gelda, as Zeldris is quite likely aware that Meliodas has killed Gelda. Hence, Meliodas and Zeldris had no qualms engaging each other, with Zeldris even initiating an attack on Meliodas and not caring at all when Estarossa killed him, although this may be since Zeldris was aware that Meliodas would be resurrected.
After realizing Zeldris was responsible for Elizabeth regaining her memories and reactivating her curse as a result, Meliodas was highly enraged and furious at his brother and later charged at him in a blind fury that caused him to be trapped by Melascula. Upon arriving on Camelot in his Assault Mode, Meliodas and Zeldris coldly greet each other and soon clash over Meliodas becoming Demon King. Meliodas proceeded to harshly say that he is the one who shall become the new King of the Demons to Zeldris, which makes Zeldris and Estarossa angrily attack him, with Zeldris saying that he will not let Meliodas out of all people get in the way of fulfilling his desire. After Meliodas displays the difference in power between him and Zeldris, he makes a deal with Zeldris that he will fulfill his desire if Meliodas becomes Demon King, resulting in Zeldris begrudgingly agreeing. Although Zeldris still mocks Meliodas on Elizabeth fleeing and him still being recognized as a traitor, they nevertheless work well in combat when fighting Arthur. Meliodas even asked for forgiveness from Zeldris for the kind of older brother he's been, which Zeldris seems to silently contemplate, implying that while they may be cold towards each other, they do have some desire to reconcile with each other. It is revealed that Meliodas' biggest regret was forgetting about his brother and abandoning him twice, but rushed to Zeldris' aide when he learned that the Demon King had taken him as his new vessel and refused to give up on his brother a third time.
Gloxinia
Not much is known about these two, aside from the fact that at one point in time they were comrades in arms. However, Gerheade's "death" (Gloxinia thought Rou had killed Gerheade, who was unconscious and seriously injured) led Gloxinia to join the Demon Clan and become one of its Commandments before being sealed away. Gloxinia and Meliodas seem to have some bond still, as they lamented, however slightly, about having to fight and kill one another. Regardless Gloxinia seems to respect his former comrade's strength, acknowledging that even now he could become the Demon King.
Drole
Drole and Meliodas, along with Gloxinia all fought with one another, during the Holy War. Drole's goal was to be the strongest, though Zeldris' easy defeat of him trampled his pride and made him become a demon, likely to attain more power. Even now as enemies Drole respects Meliodas' strength, speaking out loud that he could have become the Demon King.
Gowther
Not much is known about these two, however, it is revealed that Gowther was one of Meliodas' best friends.
Chandler
Chandler is Meliodas' former master. Not much is known on their relationship while they were members of the Demon Clan, but even after his betrayal, Chandler remains deeply attached and respectful to Meliodas. Meliodas, while respecting his mentor for his great power, does not hesitate to command Chandler, as shown when he sternly told him he will not hear any objections from Chandler in bringing Elizabeth with him and later had no qualms silencing him when he attempted to reply to Cusack's accusations of incompetence.
Demon King
At first, Meliodas appeared to have been favored by the Demon King above his brothers, with the Demon King considering him the only worthy heir to the throne of the Demon Clan. The fact that he was taught the Jikai spell, which only Zeldris, the King's representative, has learned, further shows the Demon King trusted and was fond of Meliodas. Meliodas himself was at first quite devoted to his father, as his emotions would later say that while he considered the war between the Demon and Goddess Clan to be foolish, he still carried out his duties fatefully, doing battle each and every day and night. However, after falling for Elizabeth, he finally betrayed the Demon King, losing any loyalty to his father and earning the King's anger. As Meliodas continued to relentlessly defy his father and the laws of the Demon Clan, the Demon King would become so enraged by Meliodas' actions against his clan that he finally chooses to personally confront Meliodas and Meliodas himself fought to kill but try as he may, he was no match for his overwhelmingly powerful father and the Demon King first brutally beat him to a bloodied state before he ruthlessly killed him and cursed him with Immortality, suffering his father's terrible punishment, which is him and Elizabeth separated due to the Supreme Deity's Curse. Ever since then, Meliodas has hated the Demon King strongly and while the Demon King still holds a grudge even centuries after, Meliodas' resentment is much greater and remains as strong as ever. When they met after Meliodas was killed by Estarossa in Purgatory, Meliodas took time to bluff of the advantages of his curse at his father to mock him and was immediately sent to rage when the Demon King provoked him by revealing that due to the Curse, he can eat on Meliodas' emotions and on his desire to revert him to the demon he once was. Even when he finally decided to become the new Demon King, he still despises his father, scornfully passing a word of defiance through Hawk. Despite the strain and antagonism between them, Meliodas' emotions ironically once called Demon King Dad, implying that he still recognizes him as his father despite all that happened between them to an extent but he is fully willing to deny this, as shown by how he coldly told the King that he no longer considered him his father. Meliodas also could not understand why the King always called him a failure and when finding out it is because the Demon King believed he is the destroyer, he quickly fired back by saying how the King is the destroyer himself. He also openly acknowledges his father's surpassing powers, as he admits that even he with all his tremendous power and skill was powerless before the Demon King when they fought and was willing to admit that even if he were to take the power the King gave Zeldris, he still is grossly outclassed by his father, but this does not mean Meliodas fears the Demon King, as shown when he battled him with no hesitation when he and the Supreme Deity came to punish him and Elizabeth and later on fearlessly charged at him when they met in Purgatory and seems to enjoy defying his father, as he took time to mock the King that he is not the one who decides who leaves Purgatory. After managing to get the better of the Demon King, Meliodas relishes the Demon King's horror at seeing his plans fail and mocks him before leaving Purgatory.
Bellion
Meliodas had met Bellion, the leader of the Six Knights of Black when he arrived to fight Mael. Meliodas showed cold disinterest and a lack of respect for Bellion and only saved him because he happened to be badly burned by Mael rather than wanting to. He even bluntly denounced Bellion as being a mere hindrance to him. At some point, Meliodas refused to allow Bellion to join the Ten Commandments, starting the latter's enmity towards him. When they meet again, Meliodas, despite the vast change he had undergone ever since the 3,000 years they met, still showed a lack of respect for him and taunted him repeatedly for being rejected from entering the Ten Commandments, infuriating Bellion, who didn't know who he was. Although Bellion put up enough of a fight to force Meliodas to use his demonic power, once Meliodas stopped holding back, he ruthlessly and quickly dispatched Bellion.
Gelda
Meliodas is aware of Zeldris and Gelda's relationship and when still the leader of the Ten Commandments, seems to have approved of their relationship, not asking why Zeldris cares so much for her out of respect for their love for each other. However, it was only after he met Elizabeth that he would finally understand how it felt. Meliodas is indirectly responsible for the separation of Gelda and Zeldris, as it was his betrayal that made the Vampires rebel. Because of this, Zeldris lost all respect and care for Meliodas. Meliodas himself feels guilt and remorse for how tragically Zeldris and Gelda's relationship ended and blamed himself for it. When they met again, Meliodas trusted her enough to listen to her out of sympathy with her for her pain as he was the one who caused her separation from Zeldris and seemed to have granted her wish to die but he sealed her instead again. It seems that Meliodas would do anything to fulfill the said promise, possibly due to his guilt of causing their separation, as he said that he will keep it no matter what.
Elizabeth
Meliodas and the goddess Elizabeth met and fell in love with each other, so much so that he betrayed the Demon Clan for her. Elizabeth is seen to be attached to Meliodas and care for him greatly; she would risk disagreeing with Ludociel and standing in the way of the Ten Commandments to protect him, claiming that she would fight all of them by herself if they attempted to hurt him. Meliodas would do anything for Elizabeth as when he put his hands through a special barrier created by the goddesses that burnt away at his arms. He also had her back when she attempted to purify Indura Derieri and Monspeet, standing in the way of Ludociel when he attempted to kill the demons instead. Their love for each other was so great that they continued their relationship despite the laws of their clans and the fact their overwhelmingly powerful parents in their furious rage would kill them, even going as far as facing them in battle. Despite their efforts, they were completely outclassed by the gods and were quickly killed and suffered punishment crueler than death. After getting revived by his curse and seeing Elizabeth's dead body, Meliodas cries in grief and later promises her he would break the curse at all costs.

- He has no complex.
- The person he respects the most is Captain of Leftovers (joking).
- The person he does not want to make an enemy of is Merlin.
- According to the Meliodas & Elizabeth Pair Sin Guide Book:
- Meliodas's favorite color panties for Elizabeth is plain white.
- Meliodas loves every part and all expressions of Elizabeth.
- Meliodas likes all of the outfits that Elizabeth wears.
- Meliodas would stop anyone who would try to harass Elizabeth.
- If Meliodas could exchange a body part with Elizabeth he would choose her breast so he could grope it all day.
- Meliodas doesn't have a sleeping posture since he is restrained by Hawk every night.
- Meliodas would still eat Elizabeth's cooking even if it taste's bad.
- Meliodas wants Zaratras to be a matchmaker for his and Elizabeth's wedding.
- Meliodas finds it cute when Hawk raves about leftovers.
- Meliodas has a good collection of alcohol, having traveled through a large number of locations.[48]
- Although his cooking seems and appears to be delicious, it is very disgusting.[49] It was revealed that the reason Meliodas' food tastes terrible is that he does not care about the customers' feelings toward his meal.
- Meliodas's meat pie is his best food out of all his horrible cooking.
- Ban has arm-wrestled Meliodas 720 times, which resulted in one of them getting 361 wins. Both of them argue as to who it is that has won the greater number of times[50]
- It was believed that Meliodas was the first to discover and acquire the power of the Demon Blood.[51] This, however, was untrue; his demonic powers are natural.
- Meliodas never wields a real sword because he is far too powerful to an extent where no one has ever come out unscathed after fighting with him.[52]
- Meliodas has two rooms in the Boar Hat - one on the first floor and the other one upstairs with Elizabeth.
- Meliodas is left-handed.
- Meliodas black mark resembles the single spiral, which represents ethereal energy radiating out.
- The Sin of Wrath is usually symbolized by a Bear and the color red.
- In the Nanatsu no Taizai Popularity Poll, Meliodas was placed 5th overall with 6664 votes (which included an online poll as well as postcards) and placed 1st (278 votes) when considering only postcards.
- According to Nakaba, in the first official fanbook, Meliodas is the most handsome character.
- The tattoo of a dragon or snake eating its tail represents Ouroboros. A cyclical symbol and in some beliefs represent infinity. A reference to Meliodas' longevity and youthful appearance despite being over 3,000 years old.
- Meliodas and Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan have the same voice actors in both Japanese and English versions.
- Ironically, the two eventually met in The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross after Sonya and Marie accidentally caused a rupture in space-time due to a poorly made summoning spell, connecting Britannia and Paradis Island, causing Eren, along with Levi and Mikasa, to be transported to Britannia.
- It was stated by Zaratras and shown that Meliodas rarely ever gets drunk and can easily sober up if he does.
- Meliodas is the oldest, in terms of age, out of high-ranking demons, Meliodas is the only one not seen constantly with his demon mark. Gowther does not count because he is a doll.
- There is an inconsistency on which God cursed Meliodas with Eternal Life as Meliodas says that it was placed on him by the Demon King but later says it was the Supreme Deity. This inconsistency is also shown by other characters jumping back and forth on (indirectly) mentioning that it was the Supreme Diety or the Demon King who placed it on Meliodas.[53][54][55][56]
- Both Meliodas and Zeldris are voiced by Yūki Kaji (Japanese) and Bryce Papenbrook (English).
- As a child, Meliodas had a power level of 300.[57]
- Meliodas has some similarities to a character named Caius Ballad from the game Final Fantasy 13-2 and Lightning Returns Final Fantasy. They both suffer seeing the same loved one die over and over. They both break the same suffering or curse that is placed on them.
