Rothes「ロセス」 is a Holy Knight serving King Arthur Pendragon of Camelot.

Appearance[]

Personality[]

As a Holy Knight raised and trained by Ironside, Rothes is loyal to him and thus to Diodora and grateful that the man brought him and Turret in after being orphaned by the previous Holy War. As such, he stood by Diodora's side in the tournament to "reclaim" Ironside's memories, doing whatever it took as per their teachings. Like Turret, when it comes to his powers, he is arrogant as shown in his match with Nasiens. Unlike him, he is more loyal to Diodora and disagrees with harming him, however, nonetheless, he falls for Turret's words about being jealous that Ironside loved Diodora without conditions, leading to him attempting to kill him by strangling him to death.

History[]

Rothes is, along with Turret, an orphan of the Holy War that was taken under care of Ironside. The two becomed knights under the direct supervision of King Arthur and Ironside, being in charge of capturing beasts from Purgatory for Arthur.

Plot[]

Wolnack arc[]

When a bird arrives to inform Mortlach of a mission from king Arthur, he leaves, leaving Diodora in charge of Rothes and Turret.

Annwfyn Gladiator Festival arc[]

Rothes appears alongside Turret participating in the Annwfyn Gladiator Festival to protect Diodora. During the battle royale, the two drives Percival away from Diodora.

After making it to the final 16, Rothes is paired against Nasiens. He and Turret watch Diodora's fight against Anghalhad, telling him to fight as he has trained and he will win. Noticing Turret using his invisible beast to attack Anghalhad, Rothes tells him to stop before he kills her but Turret asks if he wants Diodora to win.

As he begins his fight with Nasiens, Rothes delivers several sword rushes, berating Nasiens' criticism of their intervention in the previous fight. Nasiens then uses his Mist Rain: Snow Coral, which does not impress Rothes, but Nasiens reveals that he has never tested the effect of high temperatures on the pollen he released, so he will test it on him. Using the power of his Bipolar Gloves, Nasiens unleashes a sea of flames upon Rothes. However, he emerges from the flames unharmed, complaining about his ruined clothes.

When questioned about the ineffectiveness of the previous attack, Rothes asks if he knows of a poison capable of causing everything from nausea and paralysis to drowning and death. Nasiens denies the existence of such a poison, but Rothes claims that it exists within Purgatory and reveals that his magical power Gatekeeper can connect to Purgatory while also protecting him from its extreme cold, heat, and poison. Rothes then opens a portal with his power, saying that nothing Nasiens has will affect him. As the lethal miasma is released, Rothes tells Nasiens that he would close the rift if they give up or else he could suffer an agonizing death. Rothes come close forcing Nasiens to de edge of the arena, but Nasiens takes flight to avoid falling. However, Rothes says that the miasma spread will reach them up as well. As Rothes urges him to come down or surrender, Nasiens calls upon the power of the Sacred Tree in their pendant, using the First Form: Sponge Percival to absorb the miasma and then the Second Form: Spirit Spear to fire at the rift and destroy it. Confused, Rothes is cornered by Nasiens, forced to surrender.

Turret berates Rothes for his defeat, saying that no small mistake is allowed in a real battle. Gawain intervenes, mocking that if they do not distinguish between "small mistake" and fate, they will never win the festival, much less the war.

After Turret's defeat by Gawain, Rothes reprimands him for failing in his mission to help Diodora win the festival. Turret says that he does not even care about Diodora because he was just the son of the man who saved them and now that he is gone he has no value anymore and should be killed because they were the only two that Ironside remembered.

After reflecting for a while he meets Diodora and kill him by suffocating him with tears in his eyes, thinking that he took the life of the child he swore to protect. After Diodora comes back to life, he killed Rothes by absorbing his magical power for himself.
