The Sacred Tree「神樹」 is a magical tree located in the center of the Fairy King's Forest and is the one who gave life to the Fairy Clan[1]. It protects the realm and its inhabitants through the Fairy King's power.
Appearance
Background
According to the Lady of the Lake, the Sacred Tree was the third being created by Chaos, being the youngest "sibling" to the Demon King and the Supreme Deity, immediately after Chaos created the world.[2]
The Sacred Tree exists in the heart of the Fairy Realm. Fairies live linked to the Sacred Tree and its magic, and some even are born from it directly. It also chooses the fairy that bears the title of the Fairy King, the one that reigns and protects the entire Fairy Clan. When the Sacred Tree judges necessary to put the next Fairy King on the throne, it gives birth to a new one.[3]
After an unknown amount of time after creating the Fairy Realm and the Fairy Folk, the Sacred Tree thus then selected Gloxinia as the first ever Fairy King and presumably gave him his Sacred Spear Basquias. However, after Gloxinia's defection to the Demon Clan as one of the Ten Commandments during the Holy War and being sealed in the Coffin of Eternal Darkness, the Sacred Tree thus then created Dahlia as the second Fairy King as Gloxinia's replacement. After an unknown amount of time after Dahlia's disappearance, the Sacred Tree thus then gave birth to Harlequin as his replacement, the third Fairy King and current ruler of the Fairy Clan.
During a invasion in the Fairy Realm, the Sacred Tree communicated with Harlequin's oldest child, Nasiens, and "awakened" him with the power to use their father's Spirit Spear. In itself, this made them the heir to become the future fourth Fairy King.
The Sacred Tree communicates with Nasiens again during their fight against Rothes through their pendant. The tree allows Nasiens to project an image so they can speak directly to him, though he is disappointed that they gives him such a lackluster appearance. There, the Sacred Tree tells Nasiens that it chose them from among the other fairies because they resembles their father in being pure, peaceful, and at the same time willing to do anything to protect those they loves. The tree then guides Nasiens to use his power through the pendant, telling him that everything depends on his own imagination, allowing Nasiens to defeat Rothes.
Personality
The Sacred Tree is, in fact, a sentient being with a mind and will of its own. According to King, the Sacred Tree exists to protect the Fairy Realm and has no feeling of evil.
When speaking to Nasiens, the Sacred Tree behaves in a casual and carefree manner. Is seen to be someone who values purity of heart and the willingness to fight to protect a loved one, which is why he chose King and Nasiens. It also has a certain pride, resenting that Nasiens didn't imagine him with a more "divine" appearance.
Abilities
Being a creation of Chaos, the Sacred Tree possesses immense magical power and is considered a god-like entity, similar to the Supreme Deity and Demon King. Among the members of the Fairy Clan, only a select few are capable of drawing on this power and sometimes summon its own roots and branches for use, given that the tree itself is extremely resilient with weapons forged from it being even more resistant than steel.
Apart from its physical capabilities, the Sacred Tree also possesses many unique qualities. It's capable of self-healing by emitting pollen to double as protection, while the moss that grows on it is capable of shapeshifting into sentient forms to fight off enemies of the tree. However, perhaps its greatest feat is the creation of the Fountain of Youth, a magical liquid that sustains the Fairy King's Forest that acts as the bridge between the Fairy Realm and Britannia. It also has life-sustaining properties, with a small amount being able to extend one's lifespan while drinking the entire cup will grant the consumer immortality, making them unable to die by any means, be it injury, sickness or aging.
Many unique plants are said to grow in the top of the tree, where only the Fairy King is allowed to access.[4] In its highest branches grow the flower known as Sunflower, which can emit powerful rays of solar energy. From the Sunflower is extracted an ivy named Death Thorn, from which the slightest cut seems to result in death. There are also Eris flowers that every thousand years secretes a nectar called "Drug of Yore" that is capable of curing any illness or curse, even bringing back people from the brink of death.
The many Spirit Spears (Chastiefol, Basquias and Darrenheart) possessed by the Fairy Kings possess several of these qualities, which are extracted by the use of their power Disaster.
Trivia
- Only "royal" Fairies like Gloxinia, Gerheade, Dahlia, King and Elaine are said to be directly born from the Sacred Tree, unlike the rest of the fairies who were born from flowers and trees in the Fairy Realm.
- The Sacred Tree's connection to the Supreme Deity and Demon King and its godlike power is hinted during the Supreme Deity's fight against the Seven Deadly Sins, where the Supreme Deity was able to absorb the magic power of King's Spirit Spear Chastiefol due to its increased power beginning to resemble the Sacred Tree's own.
